Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you (eventually) five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you.
And she gave me:
Teaching: What I'm Here For. My chosen profession, and half the time my avocation. I serve the Imperatrix Mathematica and 120 kids a year, and then they spin away from me into the wind and She judges me for what they do not know. It's a living.
Fandom: What I do with the rest of my time. I don't particularly like consuming mass media, especially not the visual media, but I love worlds and characters, so I play with them after consumption. (It's the reverse of a cat.) I enjoy both the "meta" aspects of fandom - critique of writing, analysis of character motivations, philosophy behind the work or embedded in the work - and some of the standard fangirl activities - writing fanfic, reading other people's fic and looking at their fanart. I'm not so much into the squeeing and vidding, although I will watch other people's fanvids and there are two LotR fanvids I'd kind of like to do if I could ever learn video editing.
Books: My childhood companions, especially since I never saw other children (except for Brother #1 and very occasional cousins) outside of school or church. I have always been a fairly fast reader, and when you're already a fairly gifted kid in the small pond of a small town's public school system, other kids tend not to be great conversationalists by comparison with the ones between the pages. Also the only way to find out about interesting subjects, especially Forbidden Lore of various sorts, in a small town pre-Internet. The Spouse and I own a lot of media, and the greatest part is books, although DVDs are catching up at a starling rate.
Spouse: My life-partner. I don't like the terms "husband" and "wife," because they imply things about the relationship that simply are not true. I have been to far too many conservative Christian weddings with submittin' goin' on. And not the good, mutually consensual, negotiated BDSM kind of submitting, either. I also don't like claims of ownership. So he-in-his-relationship-to-me is The Spouse, as am I-in-my-relationship-to-him. Equal language for equal partners. The joy is that this language is as natural to him as it is for me. *smooches the Spouse*
Music: Hmm. A somewhat more mature companion than books, although music has certainly been there for me from the beginning. I am possibly the least musical member of my immediate family, and I play an instrument (French Horn) and sing (tenor to alto, although at band practice they've been pushing me up into mezzo-soprano, which is over my break). I've also taken lessons for several different types of dance, although never to performing proficiency. I'd like to think I have fairly broad taste in music, although I certainly know those with broader.
