And Now, the Answers (With Commentary!)

So here are the answers to last night's musical memeage, and the scores.
1. "The Queen And the Soldier," Suzanne Vega. I thought this was a gimme, but none of my Celtic scenesters played this round.
2. "West End Girls," Pet Shop Boys.
briareos got it; I was expecting more, as I think of this as a pretty iconic song.
3. "Heaven Is A Place On Earth," original Belinda Carlisle; this was the cover by Soda Club.
tenshihitomi,
jeff_morris (although technically that was the album title), and
cifarelli.
4. "1964," Too Much Joy. One I thought was too obscure for words, but
bibulb got it (even though he was off by a year).
5. "Trapped In The Drive-Thru," Weird Al Yankovic.
briareos got it, for which I salute him; I wouldn't have from just the first lines.
6. "Don't Let Me Down," The Beatles. Not one of their biggest hits, although I figured most people would at least have heard it.
tenshihitomi got it.
7. "Seasons of Love," from the Rent Broadway soundtrack. This was a "you know it or you don't;" if you've ever heard the song, that's a pretty distinctive opening line, but it's not one you could guess on style.
tenshihitomi got it.
8. "Put Down The Duckie," Jim Henson and the Sesame Street Players, and I am a little bit disappointed in all of you.
9. "Section 11 (A Long Day Continues/We Sound Amazed)," The Polyphonic Spree. The lyrics occur at 1:22 into the song, just after an English Horn solo. I was only expecting the Spouse to get this one, if anyone.
10. "For What It's Worth," Buffalo Springfield. An oldie but a goodie, although I'm surprised more people got this one than the Beatles; I took CSN&Y as an answer since I'm sure they did it in concert.
starcat_jewel,
jeff_morris, and
bibulb.
11. "Wouldn't It Be Nice," The Beach Boys. I'm a little surprised that more people don't give this song the side-eye; it's far more clearly about sex than "Wake Up Little Suzie" is, for instance. Is it just that it's at least giving lip-service to waiting for marriage?
tenshihitomi,
starcat_jewel,
jeff_morris, and
bibulb.
12. "Welcome To The Jungle," original by Guns 'n' Roses; this was the Big Daddy cover. I expected more people to get this one, although it starting off with the title didn't necessarily make it easier.
tenshihitomi,
bibulb, and
briareos.
13. "Break It Down Again," Tears For Fears. One of my personal favorite songs, but not one of the hits of theirs everyone remembers (those would be "Shout" and "Everybody Wants To Rule The World," the second deservedly so).
14. "Specialty," Howard Jones. I am uncommonly fond of HoJo and this was a deep album cut (it was actually originally on the B-side of a vinyl EP and was only added to Dream Into Action when it was released on CD); I was not expecting anyone to get it, and no one did. It's kind of a cool song, though; check it out.
15. "Every Rose Has Its Thorn," Poison. Not a cover, so I can't hide from my penchant for '80s/'90s hair metal this time. *hides under the desk in embarrassment* However, at least
briareos shares my shame.
16. "Do What You Want," OK Go. Not as obscure as, say, the TMJ, but not one of their big Internet hits, either. Wasn't really expecting it to get any guesses.
17. "You Shook Me All Night Long," AC/DC. Not apologizing for this one.
tenshihitomi,
starcat_jewel,
jeff_morris,
bibulb, and
briareos. One of the two that got guessed the most.
18. "Paradise," the BoDeans. This is the song I mentioned in the other post. No one got it, and I'd have been surprised if anyone other than the Spouse did, as it's not one of their hits. It is, however, a gorgeous song; of all the ones in this list, if you don't know this one, look it up and give it a try. Here's the live version (warning: coarse language on the outro).
19. "Moonlight Shadow," original by Mike Oldfield; this was the Deathlike Silence cover. Another one that would have been a gimme to the Celtic crowd.
20. "Time After Time," original by Cyndi Lauper; this was the Ketterman & Mizell cover. A total gimme, and the other one that got guessed the most.
tenshihitomi,
jeff_morris,
cifarelli,
bibulb, and
briareos.
And our winner is
tenshihitomi with 7 points! *cheers* Thanks to everyone who played.
1. "The Queen And the Soldier," Suzanne Vega. I thought this was a gimme, but none of my Celtic scenesters played this round.
2. "West End Girls," Pet Shop Boys.
